Once off the train from Geneva with your feet safely on the ground in Aigle, good job! You're nearly to L'Abri! Either through the SBB website (linked below), the SBB smartphone app, or in the ticket office around the corner from where you just arrived, purchase a bus ticket to the Bellevue bus stop in Huemoz (pronounced Way-moe). Bellevue is the second stop in Huemoz, so be on the lookout for village signs and the first bus stop to know when to alert the driver of your impending stop. If you find yourself past the stop and all the way in Villars, don't panic, all is well. Simply ask the driver if he will take you by on his return, or ask when the next available bus leaves and try again.
The link below is to the English version of the Swiss Train website. The train system in Switzerland is very punctual and well-run. If you have a smartphone, our advice is to download and use the SBB app (it makes life easier.) If you do not have a smartphone, the website is quite sufficient, or you can purchase tickets at kiosks in the Geneva airport or at any Swiss train station platform.
If flying into Paris and connecting to Geneva by train, here is a link to the French rail travel website. Again, it can be helpful to download their smartphone app for easy ticket ordering and retrieval. One word of advice: it is much easier to connect to the high-speed rail line from the Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris than it is from the Paris Orly Airport. However, Orly flights can be more economical at times. If you find yourself at Orly and needing to connect to Geneva, don't worry, it's very manageable.
Geneva is a very accommodating airport and many attendants speak fine English. Smile and greet them with your best "Bonjour!" then ask your question in English. They are usually very willing to help direct you. The Swiss Rail system connects it's final stop in that direction directly beneath the Geneva Airport. Buy a ticket on SBB.com and have a lovely ride from Geneva all the way to Aigle. When purchasing your tickets, pay close attention to any connections. There are tickets that allow you to ride the entire trip without the need to change trains.
Charles de Gaulle is a large international airport built closely on the outskirts of greater Paris. Like the Geneva airport, the Paris/French Rail Line stops on its lower level.
Orly airport in Paris offers many flight options, both timely and economical, that are not always available at Charles de Gaulle (CDG). The only drawback for travelers new to Paris is connecting from the airport to the Paris/French Rail System. If you find yourself in Orly, ask any available attendant (don't be shy; they are very friendly and usually speak English) how to purchase a ticket for the ORLY Bus and where to wait for its next departure. The ORLY Bus shuttles travelers from the airport through Paris and to Denfert-Rochereau station. From this stop, purchase a ticket for the metro (subway) that will take you to Gare de Lyon where you will board your high-speed rail ride (likely the TGV) to Geneva!
